Hospitality is taken very seriously among Tahitians, who greet each other with beautiful phrases like ia ora (“let there be life”) and consider warm welcomes a part of sacred tribal law. This excursion is an opportunity to experience that legendary island hospitality firsthand. Depart at 6 a.m. with a member of the Conrad team on a local bus making various stops around the island from Vaitape to Faanui. Learn the habits and customs of fenua, or the land, and be welcomed into homes for a breakfast sampling of Polynesian pastries like galettes, coconut bread, and sweet doughnuts. You’ll don flower crowns and fragrant leis and meet with Papi, a talented cook and real island character, for a traditional Bora Bora meal of raw fish, fafaru, taioro, and chicken fafa. Stop to see the local artifacts of the Marae before filing into a church pew—alongside ladies in their colorful Sunday hats—in time for the lively 10 a.m. mass.
Arrangements for the round-island tour (with a Conrad team member accompanying you) can be made through the concierge, and the itinerary customized to your wishes.
