PICNIC ON A PRIVATE ISLAND
  • Arrange a boat charter to a stunning secret islet
  • Spot manta rays, barracudas, and black tip sharks en route
  • Dine on fresh-caught fish and tropical fruit in the clear shallow water

Mornings are the perfect time to board a boat and glide through the calm, shimmering seas around Conrad Bora Bora Nui. Leap off the side for a closer look at the living coral garden, or leave the protected waters and take the boat out beyond the pass, where ghostly manta rays, black tip reef sharks, and barracudas can be seen just below the water’s surface. After your swim, it’s off to a stunning private islet for lunch. Your boat captain will maneuver into shallow water, throw down the anchor, and set to work on the mid-day meal. Palm fronds are collected for table settings. Coconuts are cracked. Scallops are shucked. Poisson cru—the tangy, ceviche-like local specialty—is marinated in lime juice and coconut milk and doled out in generous portions. Between refreshing bites of tropical fruit salad and crusty French bread sandwiches, you’ll wade in shallow waters looking for unusual shells, or snap on a snorkel mask to check out the underwater flora and fauna.
